Founder
In 1988, Jayni founded the Center for Environmental Education to provide teachers and students with the resources and materials necessary to build strong and effective EE in classrooms across the US.
Jayni’s Blueprint for a Green School (Scholastic, 1995), complied more than 7,500 sources of environmental information for schools to 'Go Green.' With the advent of the Internet, Jayni dissolved her board and gifted all materials to Unity College in Unity Maine in 2008.
Jayni is currently serving on the board of directors of the Billion Oyster Project (BOP) and as chair the board of Friends of the Earth US. She has served on the board of the Environmental Media Association (EMA), the Alliance for Climate Education (ACE) and The MGR Foundation. She has also served on numerous advisory boards, including NRDC LA, the Antioch New England Institute, Mothers & Others for a Livable Planet, Global Green USA, Californians Against Waste, the Coalition for Clean Air, the USGBC Center for Green Schools, Cool Globes and Ten Strands. Jayni is also a member of Pleiades, a network of women working on sustainability.
The Antioch New England Graduate School granted Jayni an honorary master’s degree in environmental studies. She is one of the Vice President Al Gore Slide Show Presenters and from 2007—2013 she participated in the Clinton Global Initiative. Jayni has received numerous awards for her pioneering work in K-12 environmental education.
She and her husband, actor-comedian-writer, Chevy Chase, have three grown daughters, Cydney Chase Bartell, Caley Chase and Emily Chase, they reside in Bedford, New York.
